September photo dump

September was spent soaking up the last bit of warmth and getting going on our first year of homeschool, and here is a photo dump from that time. It's funny because now that I'm writing this at the end of the school year, it would appear that I was a much more ambitious homeschool mom than I am now...or maybe it's because I have another kid. Oh well...

Charlie helps Edwin with his school work that we do once in awhile...
and cooks!

And took Christmas lights into the "jungle" to decorate a clubhouse.

And helped haul the large bags of chicken food so his very pregnant mama didn't have to!

We were doing a mammal unit for science at the beginning of the year, so we gathered all the mammal stuffies and did story time with them.

At some point we had a cookie decorating kit from my friend Heather.

My mom has a bird menagerie in her home (and even more birds since this photo was taken.) Gwenevere was pretty good at taming the grumpy birds.

The boys helped with Max's birthday present,

Back in September there were crazy wildfires throughout Oregon. This photo was taken on a day when they were just starting to get bad (taken from OHSU at my prenatal appointment.) The smoke got thicker and thicker over the next couple days and we were on standby to possibly evacuate. Thankfully we didn't have to evacuate and we feel so sad for all those who lost their homes and belongings in the fires.

Back to science, we made a mammal portrait art gallery.

These are Miles' the top one is a Dolphin and i think the bottom one is his interpretation of a Tiger?

Both of these are from Edwin and they are Chase from Paw Patrol.

Charlie's fox and hedgehog (which looks more like Sonic than an actual hedgehog)

He's always hanging around,

Milk experiments when we studied lactation during our Mammals unit.

What homeschool should look like but rarely does.

They were sent on a scavenger hunt to find the saucer swing we got them. Charlie was studying cardinal directions so it was a fun way to practice using the compass. The neighbors joined in on the fun.

I also forgot how brown our grass gets in the summer.

Bread making! To go with our homemade butter from our mammal unit.

We got a haunted house kit from Trader Joe's, it was fun but didn't taste great.

I like Edwin's Breakfast Club pose!

Finally the parks opened back up!

And we had a nature walk after picking up some library books.

We found Green Grandma and Grandpa's brick at the Old library.

We discovered a dog park which was entertaining for awhile.

Near the end of the hike I trip on an uneven bridge and fell on my stomach. I felt fine but if that happens this late in pregnancy, it is protocol to monitor the baby for 4 hours. So I spent the rest of the night in the hospital.  I got caught up on some polos and shows and school planning so all was well.  And of course baby was healthy and happy.

And then back to to grind.

There's our september for you, back when it was sunny and I was a cool teacher!
