Swords and Doughnuts

We had a fun family night that we were all looking forward to but it got postponed for a couple nights. We were going to go get doughnuts and play at "purple park." Our cousins showed us purple park a couple months ago and Charlie had asked so many times to go back but it was difficult since it is a school playground and we can't go during the day. When the day finally came for doughnuts and purple park Max also suggested the idea of sword making, which he had done with the Young Men in the church and had purchased extra supplies so our family could make some.

So Swords, doughnuts and Purple Park. What more could a little boy want? OH yeah, and they also got to use grown up tools to make the swords...

While we were helping Charlie finish his sword he said "I love my sword!" no less than 15 times!

When their swords were done they practiced in the parking lot while Max and I finished our swords. (These are the things I do when I have a houseful of boys and I completely love it!)

We then made our way to pick up doughnuts to take to the park. Once we got there, Charlie ran off to climb and play right away while Miles plopped right down to start his doughnut binge.
Miles was not going to move until every doughnut hole was gone, we had to remind Charlie to come get some before his brother ate them all.

And then there was a lot of playing and running and swording (is that a thing?)

And water breaks!

And then there was an immaculate sunset that I had no idea how to capture on my phone, also there was a large school blocking the view.

Don't you worry, I did lots of sword fighting too, there is just no documentation :)

And when it was past bedtime and starting to get dark we made our way back to the car and called it a night. A fun little memory for us and the boys!

Mother's Day

We celebrated Mother's Day two weeks ago. It was extra special because Max didn't have to go to a bunch of meetings before and after church, so I got my boys all home with me. He got up with the boys in the morning and they made puff pancakes with strawberries. We enjoyed our food and ended up getting to church a little late. I enjoyed church immensely, usually I'm a teacher for the 3-year old kids, which is challenging and rewarding and very similar to a circus, but for mother's day they had the men take over all the classes so the women could all meet together for a special Mother's Day lesson. I do miss being with the other women on Sundays so this was a great treat. And it wasn't even a full lesson, we just got to socialize with each other and it was great. After church we got nap time. Later we had a quick dinner so we could go out and explore and take some Mother's day photos.  I don't end up in photos much of the time since it's usually me chasing my kids with my camera. But since Mother's day is in the beautiful Spring it has been fun to find someplace beautiful and get photos with my boys.
Here are our photos from last year.

So we went to our favorite garden and checked to see how our Wisteria was doing, sadly it was wilting but that didn't stop us from having fun.

And Max took some great photos for us.

But then we played in the maze

...and found a sign that said "NO RUNNING!"

So then, I was inspired by a friend to let Charlie try using my camera. He's wanted to for awhile but I'm always hesitant since he can be rough and trips a whole lot. He ended up being really careful and took some good pictures. I kind of staged most of them but he did pretty great and I may let him hold it for a little longer next time.
I like this one he took of Miles.

Back to my photos for a bit..This is a Miles' "take my picture mommy" photo.

And I was kind of admiring these lovely gentlemen!

 ...and this one too!

And the camera was back in Charlie's hands

I was proud of him, there were even a couple times he would say..."now kiss eachother!" haha When he wasn't holding the camera he would tell me and show me things he wanted to take a picture of. We may practice more in the future, because he really did enjoy it.

And then we did a whole bunch more Mother's day photos.

And we were told to put our arms in the air...

And a couple more of the boys that made me a mother...

So, there you have it, another perfect outing to our garden and a wonderful celebration of my little family who I love so very much. I love being the mother of these two rambunctious and loving boys!
