That's my boy

I love seeing Charlie grow up and notice as more of his personality comes out. He is always very aware of his surroundings and wants to see, touch, taste, and hear everything. I call him my little explorer

He has recently had more opportunities to play in the dirt, and with sticks, and rocks...

And then he wanted to explore under the car...don't worry, we didn't let him get too far.

And then there are these pictures. We brought Max some leftovers for a lunch break while he was working on the house, and we had a little picnic in the dirt...

mmm...french fry

Wow...this is a delicious

Thanks for the french fry dad

I really like french fries

See my french fry!
That's all, I just love my boy!

A proper weekend.

You know how sometimes the weekends are spent doing busy stuff that you don't really want to do, but then there are other times Sunday evening comes along and you realize that nothing more could make that weekend more perfect.
We had a weekend like that.
Saturday Morning:
Max gets up early to get a couple hours of work done on the house. Lisa, August, Brayden, and Mitchel stayed the night with us while they are in town for the weekend. Lisa left early to drop Mitchel off with his other cousins so Charlie and I just had a quiet morning. I get a call from Max who stopped at a garage sale right next to our house. We've been finding some amazing garage sale deals recently to help make our house a home. He found a brand new projector for a tiny tiny price. We've been playing with the idea of getting with the times and purchasing a TV, up to this point we have only watched movies on our computer and we aren't really TV watchers. So we were really excited about this purchase..and it becomes important later in the story...read on.
Lisa came back and so did Max and we got ready to go to OMSI!! (just a fair warning, there will probably be a lot of OMSI posts over the next year.) It was even more fun this time because Max could come, and Aunt Lisa, and cousins! and here are some excellent picture taken by Lisa...

He was trying to make my hair stand on end, it didn't work, but my feet were getting constantly shocked
Then I tried to make his hair stand on end...or possibly shock him.

We were exhausted after our day at OMSI but the fun didn't stop there. We headed to the Polish Festival. Max's cousin, Danika has a Polish boyfriend, Michael. A really nice guy and basically part of the family. They were working in one of the booths and invited us to come. So we decided to check it out and enjoy some delicious Polish food. Another unique experience we have under our belts. Plus, the caricature drawing lady asked if she could draw Charlie's picture for free so others could see her drawing and want to buy a picture. We ended up being glad we didn't pay for it because the picture turned out pretty creepy.

The rest of Saturday we took a family trip to the grocery store and called it a night.

Sunday: We had a nice Lazy morning and enjoyed Max being home. Went to church, where Charlie has decided that we will fuss if he can't get his wiggles out so he spent a lot of time out in the halls, racing around with other babies and working up quite the sweat. Luckily he slept the last hour. After church we had some dinner and some family hammock time!

We followed our hammock time with a brief walk to the park, by brief I mean we went to the park that's in our back yard. We then headed home and Charlie went to bed. This is where the projector story comes in.
With the baby in bed, the hammock set up, and the weather gorgeous, We felt is was a perfect opportunity to try out the projector on the patio and have a romantic outdoor movie date.

With hot cocoa in hand, we cuddle up on the hammock with lots of blankets and watched Harry Potter and the Dealthly Hallows Part 2. We felt we needed a pretty epic movie for our first outdoor projector date so this one seemed appropriate. And let me tell you, it was a fun night.
That evening i felt so blessed that I was able to spend so much time with my family and having fun and new adventures. Life is good...and I'm pretty sure that's how all weekends should be.

Max's 26th

Yesterday we got to celebrate the birth of an amazing husband and father. Charlie and I definitely wanted to make him feel special and know how much we appreciate him so we got up early and decorated the house with balloons and a Happy Birthday Max banner. We then went upstairs to make Max his traditional birthday Breakfast "French Toast Rafael" I didn't realize it was a tradition until I was making it this year and realized I had made it for him every birthday since we've been married so this was the fourth time. We enjoyed a nice breakfast, then Charlie had a nap and Max wanted to spend that time cleaning our room (that's my husband!)   I wanted to spend that time doing something more frivolous but it was his birthday so he got to pick. Right when Charlie woke up we loaded up the car with our hiking stuff and a picnic.
Max and I had realized that we had never been to Multnomah Falls together although it is a national landmark and only about 30 minutes from our house. We decided to spend his birthday taking a family trip there. We also wanted to try out the hiking backpack my sister-in-law, Elizabeth, gave us. The weather was beautiful and we had a wonderful time. Here are some pictures to show the greatness of our hike.

Smiling and ready to go

The sun was just coming over the mountain, it was beautiful.  and that waterfall on the left, we hiked to the top of that!

I love my family

The view while climbing the mountain was pretty decent

My favorite picture!

Looking over the edge.

Fascinated with the water.

Loving the Fall colors

goofy family pictures

And then Charlie fell asleep on the way down
On our hike down, Max had to walk extra steady which is hard when you have to fall and stumble down a hill

Back at the bottom. We were all the way at the very top.

Charlie kept sleeping when we put him on the ground and ate our lunch.
We got home tired and happy. We decided to let Max open his presents although we were going to wait until after dinner when we did cake and candles.
We were going to go out to dinner but then Max's uncle Jay offered to take us out with some other extended family members to celebrate our birthdays and Danika going off to college. We decided to go with them. It was a fun time and Charlie did well staying up way past his bedtime. When we got back from dinner we had a little cake celebration. We (I) sang to Max, although Max joined in because I think he felt sorry for me having to sing by myself. He blew out his candles and we had a little cake.

Max's FACE!!! He loves cake!

After Charlie went to bed we ended his birthday with a little tradition we started on Max's birthday 4 years ago the night I was released from being a missionary. We spent the evening together in the hammock. I think it was a pretty great birthday!
Thank you for being born Max!!!
