One of our only and most exciting camping trips of 2020 happened at the end of July. My uncles had arranged for a Roemhildt family reunion at the Fort Stevens campground which is near some old WWII forts and near The Wreck of the Peter Iredale Beach. This was a camp ground that my dad went to annually while he was growing up. We were excited to be able to go to a portion of the week long camping trip. We got there in the evening on Friday and set up our tent quickly in the dark. We all slept well and I got up early to start our Dutch Oven breakfast the next morning.
The boys ran wild for the next couple hours with my cousin Andrew. When it was time for Andrew to leave, my boys started sulking. We wish we were able to see them more often. He is the best.
We then went on a family bike ride. I love how we could all ride together. Edwin cruised on his balance bike and only biffed it once on a big hill. (hopefully Walter will be big enough to go in the bike trailer this summer.)
We rode our bikes back and got a little lost but made it eventually We ate some lunch then wanted to get to the beach before the sun went down. It was only a half mile bike ride but I didn't think Edwin would make it after riding a couple miles earlier in the day so I drove with him while Max rode with the older boys and my brothers.
We got there first and explored a little bit.
This beach is known for its huge shipwreck from over 100 years ago. It's fascinating to see the frame and it made a fun playground.
Miles was really the only one brave enough to climb and play on it.
So I took a million photos of him.
And then some good wave chasing!
"Does this make me look scary?"
A sleepy pile of boys the next morning.
The next morning was Sunday, we were able to stream our church service for the first time since everything had shut down and we were able to listen to it in the tent. I know camping is wonderful for distancing from technology but it was wonderful to hear messages of our Savior from the simple comfort of our tent together. After the church service, we packed up and drove to the much larger Fort Stevens. We had a good time climbing over all the cement structures.
My dad took our masked family photo!

Anyway, it was a memorable trip with my family!

you guys are the best and such a great family!
