We survived the first month of having two little boys. We love our little boys and some things have gone much easier than expected and then there are some things that have surprised us.
Miles has been growing like crazy. He loves to eat and poop. He is even a decent sleeper. When he was in the womb he would always start to be active right at midnight. I could set a clock to it so I assumed that we would have a hard time adjusting his day/night schedule. I guess I shouldn't speak too soon but he hasn't had any trouble with being awake for long periods of time at night. He will just wake up to eat then go back to sleep. I think we got lucky on that because I remember pacing the house in the middle of the night with Charlie for hours trying to get him to go back to sleep. He usually sleeps for 3-4 hours stretches but we have been lucky to get some six hour stretches already. Since he is gaining enough weight now we don't feel like we have to wake him every 4 hours to feed him. I do however have to make sure I don't go longer than six hours without pumping so I have to occasionally wake up to pump in the middle of the night when Miles is still sleeping. Definitely my least favorite part! Over the last week or so, Miles prefers to be held while falling asleep. Before then, he had been content sitting around anywhere and falling asleep on his own. He still is content most of the time just sitting and observing which really makes it a ton easier to play with Charlie, get my pumping done, and even do some blogging. He really has been a delight to have in our family. Even though it's not that fun to get up in the middle of the night, I think it has definitely become easier with the second child, or maybe it's the fact that Max gets up with me almost every time to feed the boy while I pump so I don't have to be awake twice as long.
PS, we think Miles is almost a breast feeder which , if you know me and our issues, is a huge miracle and we hope to not be pumping much longer and that Max can get more sleep.
Miles was a month old on Cinco de Mayo so we tried to get a little festive. For the record, Max got this blue blanket in Spain when he was in the eighth grade and said it had never been used so it seemed like a great occasion .
I still feel like Charlie is adapting well. He likes his little brother but mostly leaves him alone and hasn't shown any signs of jealousy. He will occasionally hold his hand, ask to hold him and he sometimes even shares his toys. (and then gets disappointed when Miles wont hold them). We've found that Miles will kick his little Soccer ball if we put it by his feet so we've had fun playing with that.

So there you have it, we are going to make this two kids thing work!
I love it, and those boys. Gonna try to stop by again when I'm in town...
