A Dam Field trip

As part of our water science unit, we made a field trip to go to a somewhat local dam. There is a large dam on the Columbia river between Oregon and Washington. There are visitor centers and fish ladders in both states but the Oregon side was closed due to covid and we had never been to the Washington side so we went there. It was empty but open and free so we wandered and observed.

We weren't even allowed to touch a lot of the hands-on activities but it was still neat being there and seeing the large turbines and seeing all the powerful water go through the dam.

We also watched the fish ladders but didn't see one fish. (There was an underwater observation spot too)

We ate some lunch and explored the gift shop, then went toward home.

Multnomah Falls was on the way back so we decided we needed to stop there since my boys were still on a waterfall high and they hadn't been there in awhile.  It's just a short paved hike up to the bridge so we made out way up there. It was still busy even on a week day but we all enjoyed it.

And they played in the stream for awhile at the bottom, then we went home.
